Arijit Singh’s security guard apologised to a local man after a roadblock incident during a video shoot in Santiniketan. The complaint was withdrawn following a police-mediated settlement. The singer, currently shooting in Bengal, recently collaborated with Ed Sheeran on a remix of “Sapphire” blending Hindi, Punjabi, and English vocals.
A recent controversy surrounding celebrated playback singer Arijit Singh has come to an amicable conclusion after his security guard apologised to a local resident for allegedly causing inconvenience during a video shoot in Santiniketan.
According to officials, the complainant, identified as Kamalakanta Laha, had lodged a written complaint on August 14 at the Santiniketan police station against Arijit Singh and his security guard. Laha alleged that he was harassed and mishandled when he protested against a road blockade created for the singer’s video shoot. He further claimed that in the scuffle he lost a gold ring.
The Complaint
Laha narrated that he was on his way to work on his motorcycle when he encountered a road blockade due to the ongoing video shoot. Initially, Singh’s security personnel asked him to wait for five minutes. However, after a long delay, he requested to pass through. According to his statement, the guards then informed him that he might have to wait another 30 minutes. Under work pressure and unable to afford further delay, Laha attempted to proceed through the blockade.
He alleged that this led to a confrontation in which Singh’s security personnel physically lifted him and placed him in a police car, which he described as harassment. Frustrated by the incident, he lodged a formal complaint against both the singer and his security guard at the local police station.
Police Mediation
On Saturday, both parties were summoned to the Santiniketan police station to resolve the matter. Senior police officials mediated discussions between Laha and Singh’s security guard. During the talks, the guard tendered an unconditional apology for the inconvenience caused to Laha during the video shoot.
A senior police officer confirmed the resolution, stating, “The complainant and Singh’s security guard were called to discuss the matter. Both parties have decided to mutually resolve the issue. Singh’s security guard apologised to the person for causing him inconvenience, following which the complaint was withdrawn.”
Bond Submission by Video Crew
Following the incident, the production team handling Arijit Singh’s video shoot also submitted a bond to the Santiniketan police station. The bond was a formal assurance that residents of Bolpur and Santiniketan in Birbhum district would not be subjected to inconvenience or harassment during their shooting activities in the area.
Arijit Singh’s Ongoing Projects in Santiniketan
For the past several days, Arijit Singh has been stationed in Santiniketan, a town internationally renowned for Visva-Bharati University founded by Rabindranath Tagore. The Padma Shri awardee has been actively involved in shooting at multiple iconic locations within the university town.
Singh, one of India’s most beloved playback singers with a massive international fan base, has recently collaborated with global superstar Ed Sheeran. The duo recorded a cross-cultural remix of Sheeran’s summer hit “Sapphire”, blending English, Hindi, and Punjabi vocals. Their collaboration was highly anticipated, with both singers alternating between languages seamlessly in the remix.
Interestingly, Singh and Sheeran also shot a music video together in Murshidabad, Singh’s hometown, during Sheeran’s India tour earlier this year. These projects have drawn significant attention, further highlighting Singh’s increasing presence on the global music stage.

While the Santiniketan complaint briefly brought Arijit Singh into local controversy, the swift resolution ensured that the matter did not escalate. The security guard’s apology and the withdrawal of the complaint have put an end to the dispute. Moreover, the assurance from the video crew has reassured locals that their daily routines will not be disturbed by ongoing shooting activities.
