Sandeepa Dhar recalls Aatish Kapadia’s colourful narration of Netflix show Chumbak, praising his versatility, humour and character portrayals. The actress says the unique narration inspired her to join the project and highlighted the director’s distinctive storytelling style.

Actress Sandeepa Dhar has recalled the memorable first narration she received from director Aatish Kapadia for the recently released OTT show Chumbak, saying his unique storytelling style immediately impressed her and made her eager to be part of the project.

Sandeepa Dhar, who has been receiving a positive response for her performance in Chumbak, spoke about her experience during a promotional interaction with in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). She was joined by co-stars Sumeet Vyas, Sumeet Raghavan, Neena Gupta and Manasi Parekh during the promotions of the show.

Recalling her first meeting with Aatish Kapadia, Sandeepa said she was amazed by the way the director narrated the story. According to the actress, Kapadia did not simply describe the characters or scenes but personally performed every role during the narration.

“For me, I was amazed because when he narrated it, he played all the parts, he played all the characters, so he was changing voice from one character to another, tonality, everything changed. So he did the mannerisms, he fully became that character and within like five minutes, he had done everything,” Sandeepa said.

The actress further revealed that Kapadia even created the background music during the narration and shifted between different characters with ease. The experience left a strong impression on her, particularly because she had not met the director before that meeting.

She recalled looking at him with amazement and said the narration itself made her want to work with him. For Sandeepa, the opportunity was not only about being part of a show but also about learning from a filmmaker whose approach to storytelling stood out from the beginning.

“I had not met Aatish before that and I was like, just by the virtue of this, I would want to work with this person to learn because he’s just so awesome,” she said.

After reading the script, Sandeepa found the material equally engaging. She said the story made her laugh and felt that the script reflected Kapadia’s distinctive wit, humour and creative personality.

“Once I read the script, I was like, ‘Oh my god’. I was just laughing, it was so funny and I think it’s got the heart of Aatish Kapadia in terms of his wit and humour and everything,” she added.

Sandeepa also said she was so impressed by the overall setup that she would have been willing to take up any role in the show. She described working on such a project as something that many actors would consider a dream opportunity.

“I felt like any part that you would give me in it, I would just do it even if they didn’t give me Kiran, my part in the show, and they would give me something else, I would do it because, you know, I think it’s every actor’s dream to kind of work in this kind of a setup. So, it was amazing,” she said.
