Bollywood actor Salman Khan has dismissed reports claiming the government pressured him to rewrite his upcoming war drama Maatrubhumi, formerly titled Galwan. The actor clarified that the film explores soldiers, their families and the human realities of conflict.

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has dismissed rumours claiming that the Government of India pressured him and the makers of his upcoming war drama Maatrubhumi to make changes to its script. The actor clarified that the reports were baseless and stressed that the film focuses on soldiers, their families and the human experiences of military conflict rather than promoting hostility between nations.

Salman Khan made the remarks while attending a special event organised for the film along with his co-actors in the Andheri West area of Mumbai on Friday. Addressing questions surrounding reports of changes to the film’s storyline, the actor rejected claims that the government had intervened in the creative process.

According to Salman, the suggestion that the film initially portrayed India in a confrontation with China and that government pressure forced the filmmakers to rewrite the script was entirely untrue.

He explained that Maatrubhumi tells the story of soldiers from both sides, their families and the challenges they face during difficult circumstances. The film aims to highlight the personal sacrifices, emotions and responsibilities associated with military service.

The actor further explained that the storyline does not portray either side as a negative force. Instead, it explores how soldiers may develop mutual understanding and personal connections despite belonging to opposing nations. However, when circumstances demand, their responsibility towards their respective countries takes priority.

Salman indicated that the film presents the difficult situations faced by soldiers and how they attempt to navigate the challenges created by circumstances beyond their control.

The upcoming film was previously titled Galwan and is based on the violent India-China military confrontation in the Galwan Valley of eastern Ladakh on June 15, 2020. The incident took place during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in India and became one of the most significant developments in the bilateral relationship between the two neighbouring countries.

The confrontation occurred amid an extended military standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), where Indian and Chinese troops were involved in a violent clash while attempting to patrol disputed areas.

The incident resulted in the deaths of 20 Indian soldiers and also caused casualties on the Chinese side. It was considered the deadliest military confrontation between India and China in more than four decades, significantly increasing tensions along the border.

Following the clash, both countries strengthened their military presence in sensitive border areas while continuing diplomatic and military-level discussions to prevent further escalation.

Over the years, India and China have maintained multiple diplomatic channels to address border-related issues and improve bilateral communication.

Against this historical background, Maatrubhumi seeks to bring the experiences of soldiers and their families to the big screen. Salman Khan’s latest clarification also places emphasis on the film’s human perspective, rather than interpreting its storyline as an attempt to create hostility towards another country.

The actor’s comments are expected to draw further attention to the upcoming war drama, particularly because of its connection with the 2020 Galwan Valley confrontation. By dismissing speculation about government interference, Salman has reiterated that the film’s central theme revolves around military service, sacrifice, family relationships and the difficult choices soldiers face while serving their nations.
