Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov Says Russia, India, China Strengthening Cooperation on Common Interests

Must Read

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia, India and China are strengthening cooperation based on common interests, pointing to their display of unity at last week’s Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Tianjin.

Mr Lavrov said the three countries share goals in economic growth, solving social problems, and improving living standards. He further added that this does not mean that everything is 100 percent the same. The summit drew global attention when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping were seen in a triple handshake and huddle, a moment that Lavrov said reflects a broader convergence as global power dynamics shift.

The display also prompted U.S. President Donald Trump to complain on social media that Washington had lost India and Russia to China, amid tensions with New Delhi after the U.S. raised tariffs on Indian goods and imposed duties tied to its purchase of Russian oil.
