Tripura has received a significant boost for the development and expansion of its micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with a sanctioned grant of Rs. 65.17 crore under the RAMP scheme. This initiative aims to empower 32,000 unemployed youths in the state by providing them with training to foster MSME growth, announced Kiran Gitte, Secretary to the Industries and Commerce Department, at a recent press conference held at the civil secretariat.
Gitte also unveiled the detailed project report for the proposed Unity Mall at the Jutemill complex in Hapania, under Dukli circle. Developed by Agartala Smart City Limited, the Unity Mall will be constructed on 4.17 acres of land with an estimated expenditure of around Rs. 150 crore. The mall aims to promote and sell local products from Tripura and other states, fostering the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative.
Highlighting the state’s investment climate, Gitte revealed that since the signing of 14 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs. 1861.51 crore during the NE Investment Summit in New Delhi on March 6, 2023, six investors have already committed Rs. 29.85 crore in the state. Furthermore, under the PM Vishwakarma Scheme, 10,904 out of 50,000 applicants have been enrolled for training as of June 7, 2024.
The Tripura Industrial Investment Incentive Scheme has also seen substantial activity, with Rs. 33.61 crore sanctioned since 2019. Additionally, under a central incentive scheme, Rs. 52.51 crore has been approved for the state. In terms of international trade, Tripura registered business worth Rs. 715.98 crore with Bangladesh in the last financial year. The Kamalasagar Border Haat is set to resume operations soon, further enhancing cross-border trade.
The Tripura Industrial Development Corporation has reported its highest-ever collection of Rs. 9.80 crore as lease rent and lease premium in the financial year 2023-24. Plans are also underway to expand the tea sector, with a mini tea processing factory being developed at Machmara and a proposal for a tea management course at Maharaja Bir Bikram University under consideration.
Additionally, the admission process for 3,975 seats across 19 government-run Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the state will commence on September 2.
