In an attempt to popularize science and technology among students in Tripura, an amount of Rs 50 crore has been sanctioned by the North Eastern Council and the Ministry of Culture for the establishment of a science park, theme-based galleries, and planetariums in the Science City.

“Emphasis should be placed on popularizing science and technology among students. Students in the state should be made more interested in science and technology through various innovative programs based on science,” said  Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha today during the 37th Executive Committee Meeting of the Tripura State Council of Science & Technology (TSCST) at Conference Hall No. 01 of the Secretariat in Agartala today.

Dr. Saha highlighted the importance of undertaking science and technology awareness programs that cater to the needs of the general public.

He also stressed the need for regular reviews to determine further programs for science and technology development in the state. 

The Chief Minister mentioned that the Department of Science, Technology, and Environment should take the initiative to coordinate with related departments involved in development work, in addition to creating action plans for various projects. 

During the meeting, it was informed by the Director of Science, Technology, and Environment Department, Animesh Das, that an initiative has been taken to establish a science park in the Science City of Agartala, with Rs 10.29 crore sanctioned by the North Eastern Council. Additionally, for the establishment of theme-based galleries and planetariums, the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, has sanctioned an additional Rs 40 crore. 

The meeting was attended by VG Jenner, Principal Secretary of the Department of Science, Technology, and Environment, Dr. Pradip Kumar Chakraborty, Secretary to the Chief Minister, NC Sharma, Director of Higher Education Department, and other officials from relevant departments.
