Former Chairperson of Nepal Forum of Environment Journalists (NEFEJ) Roshani Adhikari Pathak has been elected the Regional Council Member for West and South Asia of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) for 2026-2029.
The other four IUCN Regional Councillors elected from the South and East Asia region are Lima Rosalind from India, Atsuhiro Yoshinaka from Japan, Yinfeng Gua from China and Amran Hamzah from Malaysia. These elections took place during the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2025 in Abu Dhabi.
During the IUCN World Conservation Congress held in Abu Dhabi from 9 to 15 October, there was a race among seven candidates from India, China, Pakistan, Malaysia, Japan and Nepal for the five regional council positions. The Congress has elected new leadership and national representatives for the 2026-2029 term. Rajan Khalifa Al Mubarak of the United Arab Emirates has been re-elected as the President of IUCN for the 2026-2029 term.
