RJD-Congress Seat-Sharing Deadlock Continues Ahead of Bihar Assembly Elections

Must Read

The deadlock over seat sharing between the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress in the Grand Alliance for the Bihar Assembly elections has still not been resolved. Yesterday, RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav was in New Delhi, but he could not hold talks with the top leaders of the Congress. Meanwhile, the top leadership of the Congress held a meeting with the party’s Bihar leaders to discuss the names of potential candidates.

The party’s Central Election Committee meeting is also scheduled to be held in New Delhi today. After returning to Patna from Delhi, RJD president Lalu Prasad began allocating the party’s election symbols to its candidates. Mr. Prasad has given the symbol to Bogo Singh from Matihani, Sanjeev Singh from Parbatta, and Deepu Yadav from Sandesh constituency. Similarly, the CPI (ML) and CPM have also given the green light to their candidates to file nominations.

In the NDA camp, the formal announcement of candidates is also facing a deadlock. The BJP and JD(U) have announced that they will contest 101 seats each. However, due to the displeasure of Rashtriya Lok Morcha president Upendra Kushwaha over seat distribution, the joint announcement of candidates by the NDA, scheduled for yesterday, had to be postponed. Both the BJP and JD(U) have started allocating election symbols to their respective candidates. Meanwhile, a strategy has been drawn up within the NDA to ensure coordination and demonstrate unity during the nomination process. Senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister will arrive in Patna on October 16 for a three-day visit to Bihar. Additionally, several Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states and Union Ministers are expected to be present during the nomination filings of BJP and NDA candidates.
