Hyderabad/IBNS: A Revanth Reddy took oath as the first Congress Chief Minister of Telangana on Thursday.

Reddy, the Congress state unit chief, became the Chief Minister following the grand old partys convincing win in the southern state.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, top leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were present at the oath-taking ceremony.

Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana.

Congress assumed power for the first time in the 119-member assembly winning 64 seats as opposed to 39 of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

The rest of the seats were won by Bharatiya Janata Party (8), AIMIM (7) and CPI (1).

Reddy, 54, has been credited with leading the Congress to victory in the countrys newest state, which has been consistently voting for K Chandrasekhar Raos Bharat Rashtra Samithi since its formation in 2014.

Reddy joined the Congress from Chandrababu Naidus Telugu Desam Party six years ago.

Since Reddy was appointed the state unit chief two years ago, he has been leading from the front, increasing the partys visibility and engagement with the voters.
