The Regional Met Department has predicted widespread rains over the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu for the next five days due to the well marked low pressure over the Southwest and adjoining South east Bay of Bengal. The system is very likely to continue to move west north westwards towards Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu Coasts.

Heavy rains are expected to slash some areas of the Coasts and interior districts including delta districts. As a precautionary measure, educational institutions in more than 15 districts have been closed today. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea for another three days. Flights have been diverted and delayed due to the inclement weather.
