In football, Real Kashmir FC secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over local favourites TRAU FC in a tightly contested Group F encounter at the 134th IndianOil Durand Cup, held at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium in Imphal yesterday. Marak Tareck gave Real Kashmir the lead in the 24th minute, but the advantage was short-lived as TRAU FC’s Afridi Buyamayum responded just two minutes later to level the score at 1-1 heading into halftime. The decisive moment came in the 64th minute when Manipuri midfielder Ningthoukhongjam Rohen Singh, playing against his home side, fired home a spectacular strike from outside the box to seal the win.
The result sees Real Kashmir climb to second place in Group F with three points from two games. The Indian Navy currently tops the group, also with three points but from a single match. TRAU FC and NEROCA FC (North Eastern Re-Organising Cultural Association) trail in third, both with one point. The group stage action will continue on Thursday as NEROCA FC takes on the Indian Navy Football Team in a crucial fixture.
