An eight-month-old Janajati infant from Amarpur, Ozanai Chakma, recently underwent a critical throat surgery at GB Pant Hospital in Agartala, successfully recovering from a life-threatening condition, officials reported. The baby was initially admitted to Gomati District Hospital in Udaipur after experiencing severe breathing difficulties. Upon evaluation, medical professionals determined that the infant required specialized treatment and was promptly referred to GB Pant Hospital for further examination and intervention.

Following a thorough diagnosis, doctors discovered that the child’s respiratory tract was obstructed by a hard foreign object, which was causing severe distress. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, a team of ENT specialists at GB Pant Hospital swiftly initiated a surgical procedure to remove the blockage. The operation was performed using an advanced medical machine valued at approximately Rs 1 crore, ensuring precision and minimizing risks.

During a press conference held on Thursday, Head of the ENT Department, Prof. Biplab Nath, confirmed the success of the surgery and announced that the infant had made a full recovery. He highlighted the hospital’s capabilities in handling complex medical cases and emphasized the significance of advanced technology in saving lives. Accompanying him at the briefing were AGMC faculty member Prof. Anil Kumar Saha and Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr. Abhijit Sarkar, who also lauded the efforts of the medical team involved in the procedure.

The successful surgery underscores the growing medical expertise and infrastructure at GB Pant Hospital, reinforcing its role as a critical healthcare provider in Tripura. The case also highlights the importance of timely medical intervention and the availability of advanced equipment in ensuring positive outcomes for patients in critical conditions.
