The Rajya Sabha resumed the discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address to the joint houses of the Parliament. Participating in the discussion, a senior leader of BJP Bansi Lal Gurjar said that India is encouragingly moving forward on the path of development and prosperity under the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government. Mr. Gurjar said that the way the government has been functioning for the past 10 years, the goal of achieving Viksit Bharat will be realised within the given time. He talked about several schemes of the government that are benefiting the people at the grassroots.

Renuka Chowdhury of Congress expressed concern over rising prices and depleting rupee value against the dollar. She said the president’s address did not mention any plans for improving employment and plans for the youth. She alleged that states have stopped responding to questionnaires and not complying with the Right to Information Act.

Praful Patel of NCP said it is the Constitution which has united a diverse nation like India. He said the government has given a new direction to make India a modern and developed nation. Mr. Patel said, from the time of importing grains to now being self-sufficient in agriculture the nation has come a long way.

Manas Ranjan Mangaraj of Biju Janata Dal said the President’s speech mentions farmers and alleged that many farmers, including those from Odisha, are not getting MSP as per the recommendation of the Swaminathan Committee report. He also alleged that Odisha has been ignored in many central schemes, including Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

Kanimozhi NVN Somu of DMK talked about unemployment and poverty in the country. She alleged that Tamil Nadu has been neglected in railway projects.

Participating in the discussion, Sagarika Ghose of TMC questioned the government over the death figure related to the recent stampede in Mahakumbh at Prayagraj. She accused the government of not doing enough to control unemployment and provide quality education in the country. She also alleged that the current government is muzzling the dissenting voice.

Monoj Jha of RJD also raised the issue of the death of pilgrims in Mahakumbh. The discussion is underway.
