Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee demanded a modern Tribal Youth Empowerment Centre in Tripura, focusing on skill development, employment, and technology-driven training. He also highlighted Tripura’s cultural heritage, reinforcing the vision of tribal empowerment and inclusive development under Viksit Tripura, Viksit Bharat.
Tripura’s development aspirations found a strong voice in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday as Member of Parliament Rajib Bhattacharjee urged the Central Government to establish a modern, technology-driven residential Tribal Youth Empowerment Centre in the state. The proposed institution, dedicated to skill development, employment generation and technological training, is aimed at equipping tribal youth with the knowledge and expertise required to meet the demands of a rapidly changing economy.
Raising the issue during the parliamentary proceedings, Bhattacharjee stressed that the proposed centre would play a transformative role in empowering young people from Tripura’s tribal communities by providing structured training, vocational education and employment-oriented skills. According to the MP, such an institution would help bridge the gap between education and employment while creating opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.
Highlighting the historical context, Bhattacharjee criticised the previous Left Front and Congress governments, alleging that they had failed to introduce effective measures for the long-term empowerment of tribal youth. He stated that despite decades in power, earlier administrations could not create a comprehensive ecosystem focused on skill development and employment for the state’s indigenous communities.
The MP asserted that the development landscape of Tripura has changed significantly since Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office in 2014. He said that infrastructure expansion, improved road and rail connectivity, educational reforms, digital initiatives, skill development programmes and employment-focused policies have accelerated the state’s overall progress while integrating the Northeast more closely with the nation’s growth story.
Bhattacharjee maintained that establishing a state-of-the-art residential Tribal Youth Empowerment Centre would complement these ongoing development initiatives. Equipped with modern technology, digital learning facilities and industry-oriented vocational training, the centre would prepare tribal youth for employment in both public and private sectors. He added that specialised training would also encourage entrepreneurship and self-employment, enabling young people to become financially independent and contribute meaningfully to the country’s economic development.
The MP further observed that empowering tribal youth is not only essential for economic growth but also for ensuring inclusive and balanced development across the region. He said that targeted investment in education, technology and skill development would strengthen the social and economic position of tribal communities while opening new avenues for future generations.
During his address, Bhattacharjee also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for recognising Tripura’s rich cultural heritage through the popular radio programme Mann Ki Baat. He recalled that the Prime Minister had praised the traditional musical instrument Chongpreng and appreciated renowned folk artist Suraj Kumar Debbarma, bringing national attention to the state’s vibrant cultural traditions.
According to Bhattacharjee, such recognition has enhanced Tripura’s cultural identity at the national level and inspired local artists, performers and cultural workers to preserve and promote the state’s indigenous heritage. He noted that cultural recognition and youth empowerment must progress together to ensure holistic development for tribal communities.
Reaffirming the vision of “Viksit Tripura, Viksit Bharat,” the MP stated that the government’s commitment to tribal welfare, inclusive development, employment generation and cultural preservation would remain a priority in the coming years. He emphasised that empowering tribal youth through modern education, advanced skill development and employment opportunities is central to achieving sustainable growth in Tripura.

The demand raised in the Rajya Sabha has brought national attention to the need for a dedicated Tribal Youth Empowerment Centre in Tripura.
