Punjab Cabinet has approved the Punjab Prevention of Offences Against Holy Scripture(s) Bill, 2025. The decision was taken during a meeting of the Council of Ministers, chaired by the Chief Minister, today. The bill has been approved to ensure stringent punishment for those committing the heinous crime of sacrilege.
Meanwhile, when the bill was introduced in the Vidhan Sabha, on the third day of the special session, by the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for discussion, the Leader of Opposition, Partap Singh Bajwa asked for time till tomorrow for the MLAs to review the provisions of the Bill, given the seriousness of the matter. The approval to discuss the bill tomorrow on Tuesday was granted by the Speaker, Kultar Singh Sandhwan. Tomorrow is the last day of the session, which was earlier called for two-days but its duration was later increased till Tuesday.
The Punjab Assembly has unanimously passed the Punjab State Development Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Punjab Appropriation Acts (Repeal) Bill, 2025, also.
