Must Read

Braving the intense heat, people across Puducherry are turning out in large numbers with great enthusiasm to cast their votes. Long queues are being witnessed at several polling stations, even during the afternoon hours, clearly reflecting strong voter commitment.

As per the latest update from the Election Commission, the Union Territory has recorded an overall voter turnout of 56.7 per cent so far. Among the two districts, Puducherry has registered 37.08 per cent polling, while Karaikal is close behind with 36.96 per cent. At the constituency level, Thirubhuvani has recorded the highest turnout at 62.35 per cent, whereas Mahe has seen the lowest at 45.39 per cent till now. Adding a unique cultural touch, heritage polling booths set up at three locations in Puducherry are drawing significant attention for their traditional look and reflection of Tamil culture. Foreign delegates visiting under the International Election Visitors Programme have also visited these booths to observe and experience the voting process.

In 2021, Puducherry recorded a voter turnout of 82.2 per cent. Going by the current trend, in which most of the constituencies scaled half way mark by noon, election officials remain optimistic that this time the turnout could cross 90 per cent.
