Tripura removes PRTC as mandatory for government jobs, requiring five years of schooling in the state. Cabinet approves recruitment for 552 vacant posts, including junior engineers, pump operators and veterinary faculty, while announcing land and financial support for Commonwealth Games gold medallist Asmita Dey.
The Tripura government has revised its eligibility criteria for government jobs, removing the mandatory requirement of a Permanent Resident of Tripura Certificate (PRTC). Under the revised decision, job aspirants will instead be required to prove that they have studied continuously for five years in any school in Tripura from Class I to Class XII.
The decision was announced by Tourism Minister and Cabinet spokesperson Sushanta Chowdhury following a meeting of the state Council of Ministers. Speaking to the media at the Secretariat on Wednesday, Chowdhury said the government reconsidered its earlier decision regarding the mandatory PRTC requirement following directions from the Tripura High Court.
According to the minister, the issue came up after a case was filed before the Tripura High Court by a resident of Delhi. Following the court’s directives to reconsider the matter, the state cabinet reviewed the existing criteria and approved the revised provision.
The new criterion is expected to provide an alternative way for candidates to establish their connection with the state for the purpose of government employment. Aspirants seeking government jobs will now need to demonstrate that they have completed five consecutive years of schooling in Tripura, within the specified Class I to XII educational framework.
Meanwhile, the cabinet has approved recruitment for 552 vacant posts across several government departments, providing fresh employment opportunities for eligible candidates.
Of the total vacancies, 310 Junior Engineer posts will be filled through the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC). These positions include Junior Engineer Grade V (A) and Grade V (B) posts in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical disciplines.
Under Grade V (A), the government will recruit 169 Civil Engineers, eight Mechanical Engineers and 18 Electrical Engineers. In Grade V (B), the vacancies comprise 104 Civil, five Mechanical and six Electrical positions. Candidates applying for these posts will be required to possess diplomas in their respective engineering streams.
The cabinet has also approved the recruitment of 185 Junior Pump Operators under the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) through the Joint Recruitment Board of Tripura (JRBT). The posts are classified as Group-C positions. Applicants will be required to have passed Madhyamik and possess an ITI qualification.
In the College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, 57 faculty positions will also be filled through the TPSC. The approved recruitment includes 17 Professors, 20 Associate Professors and 20 Assistant Professors.
In another significant decision, the state government approved an allocation of 2.5 gandas of land in Agartala for Commonwealth Games gold medallist Asmita Dey. The government will also pay an allotment premium of Rs 33,50,239 for the land.
The cabinet further approved the establishment of new fire stations at Boxanagar, Manu Bankul, Garji and Ganganagar, aimed at strengthening emergency response infrastructure in the respective areas.

The government also decided to increase the grants provided by the General Administration (Political) Department to the families of ex-servicemen.
The series of cabinet decisions marks a significant development in Tripura’s government recruitment policy, while the approval of 552 vacancies is expected to create new opportunities for qualified job seekers across different departments.
