Prof. Purnendu Kumar Das, who runs an organization for students’ welfare, has extended financial support to a needy but promising schoolgirl, based on a “Tripura Times” report.
Barsha Das, a Class-IX student of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and resident of Maheshklala in the city outskirts, has received the financial help to support her study.
Prof. Das is providing such help- Rs. 2500 to two selected students of Class XI and XII each every month– the students need to be needy and meritorious. In that case, he will give assistance of Rs. 1000 to the schoolgirl for two years up to final examination of Class-X.
On Sunday, the schoolgirl met Prof. Purnendu Kumar Das and received a cheque of Rs. 6,000, the assistance for the first six months.
When contacted, Barsha expressed her happiness and extended her sincere gratitude to Prof. Das for his kind initiative.
Prof. Das, who retired over 20 years ago from MBB College, formed the organization- Piyarimohan Labonya Prabha Memorial Students’ Welfare Trust in 2016 and raised fund for helping students from his pension.
The local English daily Tripura Times had highlighted Barsha in a report on June 05 last after she sought help from Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb through social media.
After going through the report, Prof. Das interacted with the schoolgirl and advised her to submit an application to his organization for the assistance. Subsequently, she applied and received the benefit.
