Union Minister of State Pratima Bhowmik was accorded with rousing reception when she landed in MBB Airport here on Monday morning. BJP leaders like MLA Krshnadhan Das, Tinku Roy, Papiya Datta et al led about 200 workers to receive here in the airport.

After offering floral tribute to Maharaja Bir Bikram statue at the airport Bhowmik said, her elevation to the position of a union minister was in reality recognition of the people of the state by Narendra Modi Government.

“It is also a step forward to give a fillip the women empowerment”, she said.

After her speech hundreds of BJP workers on motorbikes and vehicles escorted her in a cavalcade to party headquarters even as thousands of people stood by the road side to welcome the Union Minister from the state.

BJP president Dr Manik Saha and other senior leaders receicved Bhowmik with lower bouquet.

Later, Bhowmik went to civil secretariat to meet Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma. Both the ministers also received her with flower bouquet. She also met Jayashri Sharma, widow of Shyamhari Sharma who was assassinated in broad daylight in 1993 at Lalbahadur Choumuhani.

BJP sources said, for the next few days several programmes will be organized by the party across all the districts with Bhowmik. They named the programmes across the state as ‘Ashirwad Yatra’.
