Some youths , apparently BJP’s Janajati Morcha supporters spat and kicked on the effigy of TIPRA Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore in a programme organized to protest recent TIPRA Motha violence. They burnt the effigy of Pradyot Kishore later.

The incident took place at Amarpur sub-division on Sunday.

At the face of it the hugely insulting incident for Pradyot Kishore was an uncontrolled outburst of anger among a section of youths. But soon after the incident came to social media and went viral the netizens as well as political circles came out with strong criticism.

The incident triggered reactions and criticism among political parties as well as netizens.

A BJP spokesperson in a press conference on Monday said the party would examine at the local level if any BJP worker was present in the protest.

Replying to a query, BJP state spokesman Nabendu Bhattacharjee said, the BJP doesn’t support any such act. He indicated that a conspiracy is being hatched against the BJP to provoke the party workers at a time when an election process is going on. He asked the party workers to stay alert and not to fall in the trap.

Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman strongly condemned the incident.

The Tipra Motha chief said the incident is shameful. In a video message, he appealed to the party workers not to give importance to such acts. He also said, Tipra Motha would secure victory in the 2023 assembly polls.
