TIPRA Motha chairman, also a royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma faced an angry indigenous crowd at Khumulwng on Thursday. He went to visit a programme organized by a regional party – Tripura People’s Front (TPF) on the occasion of World Human Rights Day. As he entered the venue of the TPF’s meeting, a group of tribal youth vented anger after seeing him and a skirmish ensued.
The fling dirty abuses at Debbarman and accused him of playing with the indigenous people’s sentiment with promises that he could not meet.
Several vehicles were also reportedly damaged.
Amidst heated arguments, the angry supporters of TPF were seen jostling around him. However, Debbarma was rescued and escorted to a safer place. Adequate security for Debbarman was made. Later, Pradyot Kishore was taken to the dais and stood along with TPF leader Patal Kanya in an apparent patch-up bid.
Speaking to the media in Agartala, Debbarma said he would continue to struggle for the betterment of the indigenous people even if others abuse, humiliate and assault him.
Meanwhile, he urged the TPF leader to maintain communication with him. According to the Tipra Motha chairman, Patal Kanya blocked the royal scion’s phone and was not receiving the latter’s calls on her phone.
Drawing similarities with other indigenous parties, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma said he is also against illegal immigration and demands the implementation of the NRC in Tripura. However, in a surprising statement, Debbarma said he supports CAA. So long, the Tipra Motha chairman was opposing the CAA.
