Pradyot Kishore Debbarman expresses hope for stronger India-Bangladesh relations under BNP leadership, highlighting border security concerns in Tripura, minority rights protection, and the need to curb radicalisation for ensuring regional stability and diplomatic cooperation.

Tipra Motha Party supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarman on Thursday expressed optimism that bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh would improve if the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) assumes power in Dhaka.

Speaking on recent political developments in Bangladesh, Debbarman said he believes the new head of the Bangladesh government, who recently returned from abroad, appears committed to inclusive governance. He remarked that people in Bangladesh have delivered a strong message against extremist and fundamental forces attempting to destabilize the politically sensitive nation.

Debbarman highlighted that the radicalisation of Bangladesh remains a matter of concern for Tripura, given the state’s long and porous international border with the neighbouring country. He warned that instability across the border could have direct security and social implications for border districts in Tripura.

Referring to electoral outcomes in certain constituencies, Debbarman pointed out that leaders from Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh secured victories with substantial margins. He cautioned that while the broader mandate may signal a rejection of extremist politics, the presence of radical elements still poses challenges.

The Tipra Motha chief stressed that the new government in Dhaka must ensure the protection of minority communities, including Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians. Safeguarding their constitutional rights and preserving the secular fabric of Bangladesh, he said, would be essential for long-term regional stability.

Debbarman concluded by reiterating that improved diplomatic engagement and mutual trust between India and Bangladesh would strengthen cross-border cooperation, economic ties, and security coordination, benefiting both nations and particularly the people of Tripura.
