Pradyot Debbarma launched six Mobile Medical Units under TTAADC to enhance healthcare in remote tribal areas of Tripura. Supported by Apollo Hospitals and Altius Group through CSR, the initiative expands medical access and creates new employment opportunities.
In a major push to strengthen healthcare outreach across remote tribal regions of Tripura, Tipra Motha founder and former royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma on Wednesday inaugurated six Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). The initiative, backed by Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) support from Apollo Hospitals and the Altius Group, aims to make essential healthcare more accessible for underserved communities that often struggle with limited medical facilities.
The newly launched MMUs are designed to operate on designated routes covering far-flung villages, offering services such as primary checkups, maternal and child health support, basic diagnostics, and health awareness programs. Each unit is equipped with medical equipment, essential medicines, and trained staff, allowing residents to receive care without undertaking long journeys to urban centres.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Pradyot highlighted the critical need to “take healthcare to the people instead of waiting for the people to reach healthcare.” He underscored that many tribal families are forced to travel several hours to Agartala or district headquarters even for minor ailments, which often results in delayed treatment and increased medical complications. The MMUs, he said, are intended to bridge this long-standing gap.
“These mobile units will function on scheduled routes, conduct health camps, and cover villages that have historically remained underserved,” Pradyot stated. “Officials have already confirmed that the initiative has generated 30 new job opportunities, which will further support local communities.”
Pradyot also addressed the evolving landscape of CSR contributions in India, noting that private companies are now stepping beyond small-scale aid and taking on large, impactful projects. He praised Apollo Hospitals and the Altius Group for extending substantial support to this healthcare initiative at a time when government resources alone are insufficient to meet widespread needs.
“Earlier, companies would donate small items or run one-time programs. Today, major investments are being made in healthcare mobility, infrastructure, and long-term community development,” he said. “Such partnerships fill critical gaps where government assistance has not been enough—whether it is funding ambulance drivers, providing medical equipment, or sustaining healthcare outreach.”
Emphasizing the importance of strategic collaboration for lasting development, Pradyot urged more organizations—both corporate and non-profit—to contribute to the upliftment of tribal regions. He suggested that CSR efforts should expand to other vital areas such as sports infrastructure, smart classrooms, anti-drug campaigns, skill development, and youth empowerment programs.
“Our communities need consistent support to grow stronger. We cannot rely on sporadic initiatives. These efforts must continue, deepen, and reach every village,” he remarked. His message echoed a broader call for a unified approach where government bodies, private institutions, and community organizations work hand-in-hand to ensure equitable development.
According to TTAADC officials, the deployment of six MMUs marks one of the largest mobile healthcare expansions undertaken in recent years in the tribal belt. The units are expected to operate throughout the week, ensuring timely coverage of all targeted areas. Health camps will be organized regularly to address local needs, from routine examinations to early detection of chronic illnesses.
Local leaders and community members welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that it would reduce medical negligence and improve overall health indicators in the region. The absence of nearby hospitals and limited transport options have been long-standing challenges in the tribal hamlets of Tripura, leading to preventable health issues and hardships for families. With the new MMUs, residents expect improved access to preventive care, faster diagnosis, and better management of common diseases.
CSR representatives from Apollo Hospitals and Altius Group affirmed their commitment to strengthening healthcare frameworks in northeastern India. They said that such collaborations reflect a growing understanding that sustainable development must reach marginalized populations to achieve long-term societal progress.
