In Telangana, polling has begun amidst elaborate arrangements for 3 thousand 834 Gram Panchayats, and 27 thousand 628 wards in the first phase of elections in the state. About 55 lakh voters will be utilising their franchise at 37 thousand 562 polling stations. 12 thousand 960 candidates are in the fray for the Sarpanch post, while 65 thousand 455 candidates are in the contest for ward members.
The polling will continue till 1 PM, and the counting of votes will be taken up at 2 PM. Over 93 thousand polling staff have been deployed for the smooth conduct of the election.
Meanwhile, 396 Gram Panchayats and 9 thousand 633 wards have been unanimously declared, while no nominations have been filed in 5 Gram Panchayats and 169 wards in this phase.
Polling in Second phase will be held on the 14th, while the third phase will be held on the 17th of this month for the remaining Gram Panchayats in the state.
