Amidst high decibel political blame games over the attack on Congress candidate Sudip Roy Barman the Tripura Police on Monday came out with a statement saying that Roy Barman wass injured in stone pelting as two rival groups of BJP and Congress clashed on Sunday night at Abhoynagar area.
The police said, an altercation among the political activists led by Sudip Roy Barman, candidate for 6-Agartala Assembly Constituency, and Minister Sushanta Chowdhury ultimately led to the brickbatting..
“In this incident Sudip Roy Barman had sustained injuries on his persons and he is undergoing treatment at ILS hospital, Agartala. It all started with the allegation made by the local BJP leaders of illegal stay of outsiders with mischievous motive in the house of an INC supporter namely Alok Goswami of Abhoynagar. Over this issue supporters of both the parties assembled there and soon it started into a skirmish,” an official press release reads.
Soon after receiving information on the incident, police with CAPF and TSR personnel led by Addl. SP (Urban), West Tripura rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Police said, two cases were so far registered, one suo-moto complaint at New Capital Complex police station and other at East Agartala police station based on the complaint of a BJP supporter.
On Monday, the Congress party lodged a complaint at East Agartala police station. The complaint filed by Rakhu Das named 21 persons in connection with the attack on Roy Barman, police said adding that, since the place of occurrence falls under the jurisdiction of NCC PS, the prayer was sent to the 0/C, NCC PS for registering a specific case and taking necessary legal action.
The police picket and patrolling are continuing in the concerned area and the cases are being investigated as per merit with due regards to law, the press release said.
