Tripura Police achieved one more success in its anti-narcotics drive as they arrested two youths with a pistol and brown sugar in Agartala on Sunday.

The recovery of sophisticated fire arms from the arrested youths assumed alarming significance because combination of narcotics and weapons is always a deadly development and it clearly indicated a deep rooted well organized racket in the play.

Police sources said, based on secret inputs, West Agartala police raided a vehicle (Hundai Verna) bearing registration number WB22-U-0288 at Abhoynagar cantonment road.

“During search, we found suspected brown sugar in the vehicle and detained two youths– Balaram Sahu alias Bhalu of cantonment Road and Jahidul Islam of Paschimpara in Abhoynagar”, a police officer said.

Officer-in-Charge of West Agartala police station Subrata Chakraborty informed the media that after preliminary interrogation, police raided the house of Balaram and seized a factory-made pistol along with empty drug containers. He said, earlier Balaram was arrested in another case of West Agartala police station.

Police registered a case against the youth under NDPS Act and initiated a probe.

Chakraborty said, the two arrestees would be produced before the court on Monday and police remand would be sought.

In the meantime, central agencies were also reported to have taken note of the arrest and they will also interrogate the two arrested youths.
