Four of six inmates who escaped from Kalikapur District Correctional Home in Dharmanagar have been arrested. Police intensify search operations using advanced technology to trace the remaining two fugitives and tighten prison security measures.

Police have successfully apprehended four of the six inmates who escaped from the Kalikapur District Correctional Home in Dharmanagar on October 1, 2025, marking a significant breakthrough in one of the most serious jailbreak incidents in North Tripura in recent years.

The latest arrest took place on Wednesday when fugitive Sunil Debbarma was captured in Agartala following a coordinated operation by North Tripura and Sepahijala district police. Officials confirmed that Debbarma had been living under a false identity and frequently changing locations to evade arrest. Sustained surveillance, technical tracking, and intelligence sharing ultimately led investigators to his hideout.

Senior police officers revealed that Debbarma had managed to remain undetected for several weeks by avoiding known associates and using temporary accommodation. His arrest follows the earlier capture of three other escapees within days of the jailbreak, an operation that authorities had described as a major success in restoring law and order.

According to the North Tripura Superintendent of Police, multiple special teams remain actively deployed to locate the remaining two fugitives. Law enforcement agencies are intensifying monitoring across sensitive locations, including border areas, railway stations, highways, and major transit points. Advanced technology, digital tracking tools, and ground intelligence networks are being used to tighten the dragnet.

Investigators believe that the interrogation of Sunil Debbarma may provide crucial leads regarding the movements and possible hideouts of the two absconding inmates. Officials stated that efforts are also underway to identify individuals who may have provided shelter or logistical support to the escapees, warning of strict legal action against anyone found aiding the fugitives.

The jailbreak had triggered widespread concern among residents and raised serious questions about security lapses at the correctional facility. In response, prison authorities have initiated an internal review, and corrective measures are being implemented to strengthen surveillance systems, perimeter security, and staff deployment at the jail.
