Late-night police raid near Pragati School busts major drug network, arrests two accused, and seizes heroin worth over ₹21 lakh, exposing illegal narcotics supply chains and reinforcing authorities’ intensified anti-drug crackdown in the city.

A late-night police operation near Pragati School has led to the arrest of two alleged drug peddlers and the seizure of heroin valued at more than ₹21 lakh, exposing the deep roots of an illegal narcotics network operating in the area. The successful raid has sent shockwaves through the locality and reinforced law enforcement’s commitment to cracking down on drug-related crimes.

According to police sources, officers from West Police Station conducted the operation late Wednesday night after receiving specific intelligence about ongoing drug trafficking activities near the school premises. The accused, identified as Bunty Nayek and Sujit Roy, both residents of Radhanagar, were taken into custody on the spot.

Police officials revealed that the duo had allegedly been active in the area for an extended period, supplying heroin and other banned substances to local youths. Their operations reportedly exploited vulnerable sections of society, raising serious concerns among residents and authorities alike.

Acting on the tip-off, police teams initiated discreet surveillance to confirm the movement patterns and activities of the suspects. Once sufficient evidence was gathered, officers launched a swift and coordinated raid, leading to the recovery of a significant quantity of heroin. The seized narcotics have since been confiscated and documented as part of the ongoing investigation.

Officer-in-Charge Rana Chatterjee described the arrests as a crucial breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking. He stated that preliminary interrogation of the accused has already yielded vital information about the supply chain, including potential sources and distribution routes. “This is not an isolated case. We believe the arrested individuals are part of a larger network, and further arrests are expected soon,” he said.

On Thursday, both accused were produced before a local court, where police sought custodial remand to allow for deeper interrogation. Investigators are now working to identify other individuals connected to the racket, including financiers, transporters, and local distributors.

Officials emphasized that the operation is part of a broader anti-narcotics drive aimed at curbing the growing menace of drug abuse across the city. Law enforcement agencies have stepped up surveillance and intelligence-gathering efforts in sensitive zones, particularly near educational institutions, to prevent drug peddlers from targeting young people.

Residents of the Pragati School area expressed relief following the arrests, stating that the locality had been under the shadow of suspected drug-related activities for several months. Many welcomed the police action, saying it has restored a sense of safety and trust in the administration.

Community members also urged authorities to maintain sustained vigilance to ensure that drug traffickers do not return. “This action gives us hope, but continuous monitoring is essential,” said a local resident.

Police officials reiterated their appeal to citizens to share information related to drug activities, assuring confidentiality and swift action. As investigations continue, authorities remain confident that the latest raid will significantly disrupt the illegal drug trade in the region and serve as a strong deterrent to those involved in narcotics trafficking.
