Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated and laid foundation stone of multiple development initiatives worth over Rs 20,000 crore to speed development in Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing all the Gram Sabhas across the country at Palli Panchayat in Samba district, Prime Minister said, these projects will enchance Jammu and Kahsmir’s development.  He said, it’s a symbol of change that Panchayati Raj Diwas is being celebrated in Kashmir today. Prime Minister said, it is a matter of great pride that when democracy has reached grass root in Jammu and Kashmir. He said, all the schemes of the central governments are being implemented in the valley. People are using the schemes to their benefits. Those who did not get the benefit of reservation for years in Jammu and Kashmir, now they are also getting the benefit of reservation.
Earlier, Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway and inaugurated the 500KW Solar Power Plant at Palli village along with 108 Jan Aushadhi Kendras, in Samba. He also inaugurated the Banihal-Qazigund Road Tunnel, built at a cost of over Rs 3100 crores. The 8.45 Km long tunnel will reduce the road distance between Banihal and Qazigund by 16 km, and reduce journey time by around one and a half hour.
 Prime Minister also laid the foundation stones for the 850 MW Ratle Hydroelectric Project & 540 MW Kwar Hydroelectric Project to be constructed on the Chenab river in Kishtwar District. Congratulating the people of Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister said, Palli is on the way to become India’s first carbon- neutral panchayat. He said, people of Palli have demonstrated what ‘Sabka Prayas’ can do.
The Prime Minister also launched the Amrit Sarovar initiative aimed at developing and rejuvenating 75 water bodies in each district of the country. He also transferred the amount of the National Panchayat Award into the bank accounts of the winning Panchayats. He said, when I speak about ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’, our focus is on connectivity and bridging distances. Our aim is to provide all-weather connectivity to Jammu & Kashmir. Prime Minister said, the day is not far away when the Devi of Kanyakumari will meet Vaishno Devi with a single road.
The PM also said, be it electricity, water connections, or construction of toilets under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Jammu and Kashmir is receiving benefits of all such schemes. The Prime Minister also visited the technology exhibition at Palli Village on the occasion of National Panchayati Raj Day.
