the strengthening ties between India and the United Kingdom, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Saturday. This high-level interaction marked a continuation of the robust bilateral relationship, as both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation across key sectors including trade, defence, technology, and counter-terrorism.

This visit comes at a crucial time when India is intensifying its global outreach to secure economic partnerships and solidify strategic alliances. One of the key highlights of the meeting was the mutual appreciation for the successful conclusion of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and the Double Taxation Avoidance Convention. These agreements are expected to significantly boost economic engagement and reduce trade barriers, fostering growth and job creation in both countries.

Prime Minister Modi expressed his satisfaction over the deepening of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and the UK, emphasizing that this relationship is anchored in mutual trust and shared democratic values. He highlighted the growing momentum in bilateral ties and welcomed ongoing collaboration under the Technology Security Initiative, which aims to build trusted and secure innovation ecosystems.

In a message posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Modi stated, “Pleased to meet UK Foreign Secretary Mr. David Lammy. Appreciate his substantive contribution to the remarkable progress in our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, further strengthened by the recently concluded FTA. Value UK’s support for India’s fight against cross-border terrorism.”

A major focus of the meeting was the issue of cross-border terrorism, especially in light of the recent April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which the UK strongly condemned. David Lammy expressed the United Kingdom’s unequivocal support for India’s stance against terrorism and reiterated the need for international cooperation to combat the threat. According to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), PM Modi emphasized the urgency of decisive international action against terrorism and those who sponsor or harbor it.

In addition to security and economic discussions, the two leaders also exchanged views on various regional and global developments, reflecting the evolving geopolitical landscape and the importance of India-UK cooperation in shaping global peace and stability.

PM Modi took the opportunity to convey warm greetings to the newly elected UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and reiterated an invitation for him to visit India at the earliest mutual convenience, indicating a desire to continue and expand the positive trajectory in India-UK relations.
