PM Modi met India’s Commonwealth Games 2026 medallists, congratulating athletes for historic performances in boxing, judo, athletics and para-athletics. India won 39 medals in Glasgow, including 13 gold, with record achievements in boxing and judo, inspiring athletes to continue bringing pride to the nation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday met India’s Commonwealth Games 2026 medallists and congratulated the country’s athletes for their historic performances in Glasgow. The Prime Minister praised the sporting achievements across boxing, judo, athletics and para-athletics, while encouraging the athletes to continue inspiring the nation with their dedication and success.
“Those who play, will flourish. Always cheer for Bharat. Bharat Mata Ki Jai!” PM Modi said in a post on Instagram, highlighting the importance of sports and the contribution of Indian athletes to the country’s growing sporting profile.
India finished fourth in the overall medal standings at the Commonwealth Games 2026 with 39 medals, comprising 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze. The achievement came despite India competing in a significantly reduced programme that did not include several traditionally strong medal-winning sports, including wrestling, badminton, table tennis, hockey and shooting.
Boxing emerged as one of the biggest highlights of India’s campaign in Glasgow. The Indian boxing contingent returned with seven gold medals and three silver medals, registering an impressive performance on the international stage.
The gold medal winners were Preeti Pawar in the 54kg category, Jaismine Lamboria in 57kg, Sakshi Chaudhary in 51kg, Priya Ghanghas in 60kg, Arundhati Choudhary in 70kg, Sachin Siwach in 60kg and Ankush Panghal in 80kg.
India’s three silver medallists in boxing were Jadumani Singh in the 55kg category, Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain in 75kg and Narender Berwal in the 90+kg category.
The seven boxing gold medals also represented the best-ever performance by Indian women boxers at the Commonwealth Games. The historic achievement underlined the growing strength and depth of women’s boxing in the country.
Sakshi Chaudhary, one of India’s gold medallists, said meeting the Prime Minister was a memorable experience for the athletes. She expressed pride at being part of the interaction and appreciated PM Modi’s encouragement.
“We, all the Commonwealth Games medallists, were invited by our honourable Prime Minister. We feel extremely proud, and it was a wonderful experience meeting him. He is very humble, and we were very happy to meet him,” Sakshi said.
Judo also produced a landmark campaign for India at Glasgow. The Indian contingent participated in 12 judo events and won four medals — two gold, one silver and one bronze. The performance surpassed India’s 2022 Commonwealth Games tally of three medals, when the country did not win a gold medal in judo.
Khelo India athletes Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh created history by securing India’s first-ever Commonwealth Games gold medals in judo. Asmita became the first Indian woman judoka to win Commonwealth Games gold, while Harsh became the first Indian male judoka to achieve the feat.

Athletics further strengthened India’s medal haul with 10 medals, including five silver and five bronze. Gulveer Singh made history by becoming the first Indian track and field athlete to win two individual medals at a single Commonwealth Games. He secured silver in the men’s 10,000m and bronze in the 5,000m.
The achievements of India’s Commonwealth Games 2026 medallists have added another significant chapter to the country’s sporting journey. PM Modi’s meeting with the athletes recognised their historic performances while reinforcing the message that sporting success can inspire a new generation of Indians to participate, compete and excel.
