Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the demise of former Union Minister Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa. In a social media post, Mr. Modi said that the passing of Mr. Dhindsa is a major loss to the country. The Prime Minister said, Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa was a towering statesman with great wisdom and an unwavering commitment to public service. He added that the departed leader always had a grassroots level connection with Punjab’s people and culture. Mr. Modi highlighted that Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa championed issues like rural development, social justice and worked to make the country’s social fabric even stronger. Recalling his interactions with Mr. Dhindsa, the Prime Minister said that he had the privilege of knowing him for many years. Dhindsa died yesterday evening following age-related health issues at a private hospital in Mohali. He was 89.
