Must Read

On this Independence Day, from the ramparts of the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the next generation of GST reforms. His vision was realised on the 3rd of this month, when the GST Council reduced tax rates in many sectors to ease the lives of citizens. Today, we take a look at the reforms affecting food and stationery items.

With the Next Generation GST Reforms, the government has provided major relief to the citizens by reducing taxes on essential food items and stationary products. The government has slashed down the tax rate to 5 percent and nil from the earlier 12 percent and 18 percent slab. Products including cheese, biscuits, and chocolates have been brought down to 5 percent GST. Meanwhile, prepackaged food items, milk, bread, and unbranded rice, wheat, and pulses are now placed under the no GST slab.

These reforms have also benefited students by making essential stationery items completely tax-free. Items like pencils, sharpeners, crayons, erasers, and notebooks have been exempted from GST. These transformative reforms are expected to make consumer goods and stationery more affordable, reducing financial strain on the people
