PM Modi attends Maldives’ 60th Independence Day celebrations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today attended the Maldives’ 60th Independence Day Celebrations as a Guest of Honour in its capital Malé. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu warmly welcomed Mr. Modi to the celebrations. The ceremony began with a 21-gun salute and a Guard of Honour presented by the Maldivian defence forces. A spectacular military parade demonstrated the country’s strength, discipline, and unity. The performances beautifully depicted the country’s rich cultural traditions and its remarkable journey over the past six decades.
        The celebration concluded with Prime Minister Modi greeting officials and dignitaries.
        Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with Maldives Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef today. The two leaders discussed the key pillars of the India-Maldives friendship, focusing on areas such as infrastructure, technology, climate change, energy, and more. Prime Minister Modi emphasized that the close collaboration between the two nations has greatly benefited their people, and both countries look forward to deepening their partnership in the years to come.
         In a separate meeting, Prime Minister Modi held discussions with Speaker of the People’s Majlis (Maldives Parliament) Abdul Raheem Abdulla. They talked about the deep-rooted India-Maldives friendship, including the close relationship between their respective Parliaments. The formation of the India-Maldives Parliamentary Friendship Group was welcomed as a positive step for bilateral ties.
        Prime Minister Modi also met with the former President of Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed. Their discussion centered on the importance of Maldives as a valued pillar of India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and Mahasagar vision. Prime Minister Modi assured that India will continue to support Maldives through capacity building and developmental cooperation.
        Prime Minister also held meeting with members of different political parties of the Maldives. He said that, The participation of leaders across the political spectrum underscores the bipartisan support for the strong and time-tested India-Maldives friendship.
