On the occasion of Republic Day two persons from Tripura Chitta Debbarma and Rekha Chakma were awarded with Padmashree.
While Chitta Debbarma was awarded for his contribution to the field of Spirituality, Rekha Chakma was awarded for her contribution to the field of eco-friendly weaving.
Rekha Chakma becomes the second woman from Tripura after Dipa Karmakar to be awarded with Padmashree.
Chitta Debbarma on the other hand is a well known Spiritual leader and head of Shanti Kali Ashram.
