Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani highlighted that Narendra Modi government has now prioritised women’s health and nutrition under the Ayushman Bharat initiative. She stressed that it is only in recent years that issues such as breast cancer have entered mainstream discussions in India.
She was speaking at a session – Her Road from India: From Boardrooms to Global Institutions at the Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi on Friday afternoon. Ms Irani said that in the past five years, over 200 million women have undergone screening for breast cancer. She further highlighted that under the current administration, women’s issues have finally reached the main table. She added that one cannot think of a future without women and girls having an equal seat at the world table.
