Over 1.45 lakh devotees perform darshan in first 8 days

Amid intermittent downpours in the Kashmir valley, thousands of devotees continue their pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath, with the total number of yatris who have performed darshan so far crossing the 1.45 lakh mark.  17 thousand and 22 pilgrims performed darshan at the cave shrine yesterday, the eighth day of the Yatra, which started on July 3. With this, the cumulative figure of pilgrims who have paid obeisance at the holy cave till date stands at 1 lakh 45 thousand and 716.
 
Meanwhile, a fresh batch of 6482 pilgrims left Bhagwati Nagar Base Camp, Jammu, in the wee hours today under strict security arrangements. This was the 10th batch of pilgrims that left Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas base camp for the Kashmir valley to perform pilgrimage to the Amarnath Cave Shrine.
 
Meanwhile, the revered ‘Chhari Mubarak’- the holy mace of Lord Shiva – reached Pahalgam yesterday, marking the start of key traditional rituals associated with the Amarnath Yatra. Over 4 lakh pilgrims have registered online for this year’s pilgrimage, which is scheduled to conclude on August 9. Last year, more than 5.1 lakh pilgrims performed darshan during the 52-day-long Yatra-one of the highest footfalls in recent years.
