The Left-Congress coalition took to the streets of Dharmanagar in a show of support for I.N.D.I.A bloc candidate Rajendra Reang on Saturday. Following the conclusion of the 1st phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 19, political parties have intensified their campaigning efforts as the battle for the East Tripura Lok Sabha seat looms, with polling scheduled for April 26.

The Congress and CPI-M have joined forces, aiming to dislodge the BJP from power by mobilizing supporters through a series of public outreach initiatives, including rallies and door-to-door campaigns. A city-wide rally was organized by the political allies, culminating in a gathering outside the Dharmanagar Congress Bhavan.

Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, CPI-M state secretary and Leader of Opposition Jiten Choudhury, along with other leaders including Pabitra Kar and North District CPI-M secretary Amitabh Dutta, emphasized the urgent need for unity to challenge what they deem an undemocratic regime at the Centre.

Choudhury urged voters to rally behind I.N.D.I.A. bloc candidates for the preservation of democracy, rule of law, and the welfare of the masses.

Critiquing the BJP government, Choudhury accused it of failing to fulfil electoral promises made since coming to power in 2014, including the waiver of farm loans and the recovery of black money. He alleged that, despite assurances, the BJP-led administration had not delivered on its pledges of economic stability and progress, particularly in Tripura.

Moreover, Choudhury alleged irregularities in the recent polling process in West Tripura, alleging unauthorized voting from Dharmanagar. He called upon the electorate to ensure Reang’s victory by a substantial margin, criticizing Dharmanagar MLA and State Assembly Speaker Bishwa Bandhu Sen in the process.
