Operations at Munich Airport resumed after 2nd shutdown

Must Read

In Germany, operations at Munich Airport gradually resumed yesterday after a second shutdown in 24 hours due to unauthorised drone activity near its runways. Authorities confirmed drone sightings late Friday, but the devices had left the area before they could be identified. The disruption caused widespread flight delays, affecting thousands of passengers. A similar incident earlier in the week had already impacted operations, raising concerns over increased drone intrusions at critical infrastructure sites across Europe.

In recent weeks, unexplained drone overflights have been reported in Belgium, Norway, and other EU countries, including over airports and military facilities. While speculation about potential foreign involvement continues, no group or state has claimed responsibility, and officials have not confirmed any links. Germany’s Interior Minister has stressed the urgency of boosting drone defence systems, with discussions on countermeasures expected at an upcoming security meeting in Munich. The incidents are being viewed by some European leaders as a growing security threat requiring coordinated regional action.
