In athletics, Olympians Tajinderpal Singh Toor, Sarvesh Kushare, and Vithya Ramraj won their titles at the Indian Grand Prix 3 in Ludhiana yesterday.
Tajinderpal dominated the men’s shot put with a throw of 18.93 meters, ahead of Iqbal Singh Chahal, 17.46m and Sahib Singh, 17.25m. He holds the national record of 21.49m, which was also the Asian record for almost three years.
In the men’s high jump, Sarvesh Kushare cleared 2.23m to win, being the only athlete to jump over two meters. He recently beat the national record-holder at the Indian Open Meet in Bengaluru with a 2.21m effort.
In the women’s 400m hurdles, Vithya Ramraj clinched victory with a time of 1:01.01 (One minute, one point zero one seconds). She had earlier equalled the national record during the 2023 Asian Games. Moumi Jana secured second place, while Aleena Varghese came in third.
In the men’s javelin throw, Yashvir Singh took first place with 77.79m, followed by Manjinder Singh with 71.01m and Gaurav Patel with 70.36m.
