Bengaluru/IBNS: Bengaluru-based ride-hailing cab aggregator, Ola, has announced a significant shift in its operations by fully transitioning from Google Maps to its in-house navigation platform, Ola Maps, on Friday (July 5).

According to reports, this move comes a month after the companys exit from Microsofts cloud computing platform Azure.

Earlier in May, Ola introduced its in-house artificial intelligence (AI) firm Krutrim and snapped ties with Microsoft Azure.

Sharing the news of Ola Maps launch, Bhavish Aggarwal, the founder and CEO of Ola and Krutrim, wrote on X (formerly Twitter), After Azure exit last month, weve now fully exited Google Maps. We used to spend Rs 100 crore a year, but weve made that 0 this month by moving completely to our in-house Ola Maps! Check your Ola app and update if needed.

On the other hand, Olas electric two-wheeler manufacturing company Ola Electric is advancing its efforts to develop solid-state batteries, aiming for their electric scooters to be powered by these innovative cells by 2025, according to reports.

Bhavish Aggarwal, the founder and chairman of SoftBank Group-backed Ola Electric, has made this announcement.

We are in very early stages of our experimentation on solid state batteries, Aggarwal said.

The Ola founder anticipates that the companys own cells will power its electric scooters, which are among the best-selling in India, by early 2025.

This timeline aligns with the commencement of commercial production at Olas cell GigaFactory in Southern Tamil Nadu.
