NPF mulls fielding candidate for lone Nagaland Rajya Sabha seat

Must Read

Differences have emerged among the party MLAs and leadership of Nagaland People’s Front (NPF) after the party president Shurhozelie Leizietsu sent a letter of NPF Legislature Party leader T R Zeliang for initiating the process for filling of nomination of the party candidate for the Rajya Sabha biennial election.

On Mar 19, the NPF president said in his letter that – “We are happy to inform you that Mr. Thenucho Tnyi, one of our Working Presidents has come forward to stand as NPF candidate for the biennial election to the Rajya Sabha for Nagaland Parliamentary Constituency if no candidate comes forward from our Legislature Group.”

The NPF president also requested T R Zeliang to take up the matter and entrust the required number of MLAs to sign the nomination paper on March 21 morning  so as to enable the party’s nominee to file his nomination in time.

A senior leader of NPF party said that, an emergency meeting of NPF leaders and MLAs will be held on Sunday in Kohima to discuss about the Rajya Sabha poll issue.

“NPF is a part of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) government in Nagaland led by NDPP and BJP. BJP has already fielded S Phangnon Konyak, president of Mahila Morcha (women wing) of Nagaland unit, as its candidate for the state’s lone Rajya Sabha seat and the BJP candidate is a consensus of BJP and NDPP,” the NPF leader said.

The senior NPF leader further said that, NPF had joined hands to form an opposition less government in Nagaland for early Naga solution.
