North Tripura DM Chandni Chandran inspects Jubarajnagar Textile Unit, pushes fast-track operations to boost Juri brand. Initiative aims to promote Manipuri traditional attire, support artisans, preserve cultural heritage, and strengthen regional economy through multi-agency collaboration.

A renewed push to strengthen rural industry and cultural preservation was evident during a recent administrative visit to North Tripura’s textile sector. District Magistrate and Collector Chandni Chandran inspected the Textile Unit at Jubarajnagar RD Block, urging officials and staff to accelerate operations to maximize efficiency and long-term impact.

During her interaction with media representatives, Chandran underlined the strategic importance of the unit in promoting traditional attire, particularly Manipuri designs, under the emerging “Juri” brand. She noted that the initiative is not only about production but also about safeguarding the region’s cultural identity through organized branding and structured market outreach.

The district administration has planned a convergence model involving multiple government organizations to ensure sustained support for the textile initiative. This collaborative approach is expected to streamline funding, training, and marketing channels, making the unit more competitive while maintaining authenticity in design and craftsmanship.

Officials highlighted that the Jubarajnagar Textile Unit could evolve into a key center for cultural preservation in the region. By focusing on traditional weaving techniques and indigenous patterns, the project aims to revive interest in heritage attire among younger generations while also expanding its reach to wider markets.

In addition to cultural significance, the initiative is expected to generate meaningful economic opportunities. Local artisans, many of whom rely on traditional weaving for their livelihood, stand to benefit from improved infrastructure, consistent demand, and institutional backing. This could lead to increased income stability and encourage more people to engage in the craft.

The district administration believes that fast-tracking operations at the unit will not only boost production capacity but also position North Tripura as a growing hub for traditional textile innovation. With structured support and a clear vision, the initiative is set to contribute to both cultural sustainability and regional economic growth.
