New Delhi/IBNS: Students belonging to the Hindu religion were threatened to get raped or failed in examinations for resisting conversion into Islam at the Jamia Millia Islamia University, which has faced the allegations in a recent report that came to light.

A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) named Call For Justice formed a fact-finding team which sent a report of discriminations meted out to non-Muslim students in the central university, which is located in New Delhi.

Hindus were reportedly forced to chant Kalma and were coerced to convert to Islam.

Not just students, Hindu professors and staff were also subjected to threats of acid attack and rape for allegedly not converting to Islam.

In one incident, an assistant controller of examinations was publicly mocked by staff members for occupying a senior administrative post despite being non-Muslim, an India Today report said.

Tribal students and faculty faced discrimination.

Several tribal students left the university owing to the discrimination, which has been spelled out by the fact-finding team comprising legal and administrative people.

Reacting to the allegations, the university administration condemned the discrimination and promised inclusivity.

The university has acknowledged that the previous administration of the educational institution may have mishandled such incidents but there is a certainty that an equitable environment will be created under the present Vice Chancellor, Professor Mazhar Asif.

If anyone comes forward with concrete evidence, we will take strict action. We remain sensitive to grievances and are committed to ensuring a safe and inclusive campus, the university told India Today.
