Four persons were killed and about 10 injured on Wednesday across the state as there seems to be no respite at the increasing road accidents.

In tragic accident a dilapidated bailey bridge on Laljhuri cherra gave in when a lorry came over it to pass. The lorry tumbled down to the cherra below and three persons died. Eleven others who were traveling on the lorry were also seriously injured.  They were rushed to Dharmanagar District Hospital.

The lorry with 11 labourers and the driver was going to Machmara..

The three killed were identified as Bhagya Chakma (28), Ranjit Chakma (32) and driver of the ill-fated lorry, Arun Nath (42).

SDM of Kanchanpur Subhashish Acharya and Officer in charge of Kanchanpur PS Krishnadhan Sarkar rushed to the spot.

Sources said, the bridge was in a precarious condition for long but the authorities did not take any step to replace it or renovate. The matter – that the bailey bridge may cave in any moment -was brought to the notice of the administration but no action was forthcoming.

In another accident, driver of a Container vehicle was killed after his vehicle collided with a 12-wheel lorry at Baluchhara area under Panisagar in the North Tripura district.

The deceased, Abdur Rahman Choudhury (37), hailed from the Cachar district in Assam.

The co-driver of the Container vehicle Dipak Das sustained injuries and was taken to Panisagar sub-divisional Hospital.

The Churaibari-bound Container vehicle had a head-on collision with Iron-rod laden 12-wheel truck and the driver of the Container vehicle died on spot. A case was registered at Panisagar Police station.
