Nitish Kumar to take Rajya Sabha oath, signaling Bihar leadership change. NDA leaders including Narendra Modi and Amit Shah to decide next Chief Minister as political transition accelerates in Bihar with major governance shift ahead.

In a political development, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is set to take oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha on Friday, marking the beginning of a major leadership transition in the state. The move has sparked intense political activity within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), with discussions underway to appoint his successor.

Nitish Kumar arrived in New Delhi on Thursday afternoon, where he confirmed to reporters that he would soon step down from his role as Chief Minister. His decision comes after nearly two decades of political leadership that has shaped Bihar’s governance and development trajectory.

“I have accomplished a lot of work in Bihar. Now I felt that I should remain here, and that is what I am doing,” Kumar stated, indicating a shift in his political focus to the national stage. He further added that he would resign within the next three to four days, paving the way for new leadership in the state.

Accompanying him in New Delhi were Sanjay Jha, National Working President of the Janata Dal (United), and Bihar minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary. Earlier, Sanjay Jha had hinted that the process of government formation in Bihar would commence after April 13, but Kumar’s latest remarks suggest the transition will happen sooner.

Meanwhile, Vijay Kumar Choudhary emphasized that the NDA remains united and committed to continuing the governance framework established under Nitish Kumar. He highlighted that the “Nitish Model” has delivered substantial progress in infrastructure, education, and law enforcement in Bihar over the past years.

Following his Rajya Sabha oath, Nitish Kumar is expected to attend a high-level meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi. The meeting is anticipated to play a crucial role in determining the future political roadmap for Bihar.

Sources indicate that top NDA leaders will finalize the name of the next Chief Minister and discuss the allocation of ministerial portfolios during this meeting. The presence of key figures such as Nitish Kumar, Narendra Modi, and Amit Shah underscores the importance of the deliberations.

In addition, Bihar’s Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha have also arrived in the national capital. They are likely to participate in a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) core committee meeting, where further discussions on leadership transition and power-sharing arrangements are expected.

The rapid developments highlight the NDA’s intent to ensure a smooth and coordinated transition of power in Bihar. Nitish Kumar’s move to the Rajya Sabha not only signifies a shift in his political career but also opens a new chapter in Bihar’s governance.
