NITI Aayog highlights 12 priority sectors to make India a global manufacturing hub

Vice Chairperson of NITI Aayog, Ashok Kumar Lahiri today released a report titled Key Sectors to Position India as a Global Manufacturing Hub. The report highlights 12 priority sectors that hold strong potential for global competitiveness, local value addition, job creation, and deeper integration into global supply chains. It also lays down a strategic roadmap to strengthen India’s manufacturing ecosystem and support the vision of Viksit Bharat. The 12 key sectors shortlisted in the report are automobiles, electronics, steel, capital goods, defence and drones, chemicals, solar PV, textiles, pharmaceuticals and medical devices, telecom equipment, leather and footwear and food processing. 
 
Addressing the occasion, Dr Lahiri emphasized that manufacturing must play a significantly larger role to fulfill India’s long-term growth aspirations. He noted that economic development across most of the countries shows that sustained transformation is consistently driven by strong manufacturing and expanding exports. Highlighting towards the shifting international trends, Dr Lahiri stated that the global manufacturing landscape is undergoing rapid change as businesses actively seek to diversify their supply chains. He expressed confidence that the report will serve as a useful reference for policymakers, government, industry leaders, and researchers as they work together to strengthen India’s manufacturing ecosystem.
