NITI Aayog CEO, Amitabh Kant today said the Aspirational Districts in the country have witnessed significant progress in key development areas in the last four years. He added that the partnership among district teams and regular outreach programmes have played a key role in this rapid improvement.
Kant said this while inaugurating a one-day conference in New Delhi on Aspirational Districts Programme over the theme, ‘Sehbhagita Se Samridhi’. He said this programme has proved to be a standout example of data-driven governance and the ranking of districts across key social parameters has played a vital role in their transformation.
He also said, many NGOs, development partners, and members of civil society have collaborated actively, especially during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure that the outreach objectives of the Aspirational Districts programme continue to reach the last mile.
On the occasion, he also launched a booklet namely Stories of Change – From India’s Aspirational Districts. The publication is a collection of behaviourally informed solutions that successfully moved the needle on the ground.
The conference has been organised to deliberate on the emerging issues and challenges in supporting the Aspirational Districts to improve outcomes across the priority areas.
Under the Aspirational Districts Programme, NITI Aayog has identified 117 districts as Aspirational Districts  based on their performance in 49 Key Performance Indicators across five themes namely health and nutrition, education, agriculture and water resources, financial inclusion and skill development and basic infrastructure.
