NHRC Issues Notices to Punjab DGP, Guru Kashi University Over Zimbabwean Student’s Death

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Director General of Police, Punjab and the Registrar, Guru Kashi University, Bathinda, over the reported death of a Zimbabwean student. Taking suo motu cognisance of media reports, the commission has sought a detailed report within two weeks.
 
It said that a Zimbabwean student was reportedly assaulted by a group of people, and he succumbed to his injuries at AIIMS, Bathinda, Punjab, last week. The Commission has observed that if the contents of the news report are true, it raises serious issues of violation of human rights.
