National Highways Authority of India, NHAI has issued directions for the contractors to ensure strict adherence to the defined guidelines for the installation of Metal Beam Crash Barriers (MBCB) along the National Highways. Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in a statement said that as per the guidelines, the Concessionaire or Contractor should ensure that the material supplied for the Crash Barrier should be of the same specification as given in the crash test report and should be installed as per the methodology provided by the manufacturer. It added that they will also obtain a certificate from the manufacturer that the Crash Barrier installed at the project site is as per prescribed design, standards and specifications.

The Ministry said that while approving the Metal Beam Crash Barrier, the Authority Engineer or Independent Engineer will ensure that all technical specifications meet the design standards defined in the crash test report.  NHAI is committed to achieving the highest standards in National Highway construction and these guidelines will not only increase the accountability of Contractors or Concessionaires to deliver good quality projects but will also go a long way to enhance the safety of the National Highway users
